1. Pick the right car
For 1–2 people in town, the Suzuki Celerio is the cheapest and easiest to park. Families of 3–4 usually choose a sedan like the Toyota Vios or Honda City. Groups of 5–7, or anyone with lots of luggage, are more comfortable in a 7-seater such as the Mitsubishi Xpander. For mountain roads or the long drive to Chiang Khan, an SUV like the Toyota Fortuner is the most relaxed choice.

3. Airport or hotel pick-up
Most visitors pick up at Udon Thani Airport. It's free for any rental length, at lane A3 opposite terminal door 1. City hotel delivery costs ฿350, or nothing if you rent for 7 days or more. Heading to Nong Khai and the Mekong? Pick up in Udon and drive about an hour.

Before you rent a car in Udon Thani
What documents do I need?
Your original passport and a valid original driving licence. If your licence isn't in English, bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) with it; an IDP on its own isn't accepted. Renters must be 25–65. Copies, photos and app-based licences are not accepted.
Can I rent without a credit card?
Yes. Pay in cash or by credit card (3% fee, card payments from ฿4,000). The security deposit is paid in cash at pick-up.
How much is the deposit?
Economy cars and sedans ฿3,000, 7-seaters and pickups ฿5,000, Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport ฿10,000. It's fully refunded when you return the car in normal condition.
Is insurance included? What is SCDW?
Every car includes CDW. The excess is ฿3,000–10,000 per incident (depending on the actual damage) for economy cars and sedans and ฿3,000–15,000 for 7-seaters, pickups and SUVs. SCDW reduces the excess to ฿0 for ฿250/day (sedans) or ฿350/day (other cars), subject to exclusions. Insurance guide
Is Udon Thani Airport delivery free?
Yes, daily 07:00–20:30. The meeting point is lane A3, opposite terminal door 1. Before 07:00 or after 20:30 there is a ฿500 fee for each pick-up and each return.
Can I drive to Laos?
No. Rental cars may not leave Thailand. Rentals of 1–7 days may be driven in Udon Thani and the neighbouring provinces, and rentals of 30+ days anywhere in Thailand.
Do I pay before booking?
Not straight away. Send a request first. We confirm the car and the price, then you pay a booking deposit of ฿500–5,000 to secure it.
