It feels sure-footed on long highways and mountain roads, so it's a good fit for families and business teams heading into Loei province, up to Phu Ruea and Chiang Khan (around 3 hours), or to Phu Phrabat, closer to Udon.
With seven seats and room for 4–6 bags, it takes a family of six or seven, or a team with equipment and overnight bags. It runs on diesel and is well suited to long drives over several days.
The Fortuner and Pajero Sport cost the same: ฿2,290/day for 2+ days, ฿2,190 from 7 days and ฿1,820 for 31+ days, and both need a ฿10,000 cash deposit. The Fortuner has the bigger engine (2.8L) and more luggage space (4–6 bags against 3–5). The Pajero Sport (2.4L) stands out for its roomy cabin and strong torque. If you don't need an SUV, the Xpander 2025 seats seven for ฿1,890/day with a ฿5,000 deposit.

They're the same price. The Fortuner has a 2.8-litre engine and takes 4–6 bags. The Pajero Sport has a 2.4-litre engine, a roomy cabin and strong torque, and takes 3–5 bags. If you have a lot of luggage, go for the Fortuner.
Why is the deposit higher than for other cars?
The Fortuner and Pajero Sport need a ฿10,000 cash deposit, which you get back in full when you return the car. Our 7-seat MPVs and pickups need ฿5,000.
Is it good on the mountain roads to Phu Ruea?
