Where to rent a car in Udon Thani? 8 things to check before you book
Get clear answers to all of them before you pay a deposit, because that is where renters most often run into trouble later. The car inspection in check 5 happens at pick-up.
1 A real company you can check
- A clear office address, pinned on Google Maps
- Ask how long they have been in business, and whether you sign a rental contract
- Read recent reviews, not just the star rating, and see how the company replies to bad ones
2 The total trip price, not the daily rate
- Very low daily rates usually come with conditions, such as a minimum rental or items left out
- Ask about delivery and return, out-of-hours handover, insurance, extras and card fees
- Ask about conditions that affect cost: daily mileage, where you may drive, and whether you return the car full
- Get one total in writing before you pay, and compare companies on that number
3 What you pay if the car is damaged
- Ask for the maximum excess per incident, as a number
- Can you reduce the excess to ฿0, and what does it cost per day?
- What isn't covered, such as glass, tyres, the underbody or driving through floods
4 The deposit, and when you get it back
- How much, and in cash, by transfer or by credit card
- Refunded at return, or after several days?
- What can be deducted, such as missing fuel or a late return
5 Car condition, and checking it at pick-up
- The model year, whether cars are serviced on schedule, and whether road tax and insurance are valid
- At pick-up, walk around the car with the staff and take photos or a video of every side, plus the fuel level and mileage

6 Can you postpone or cancel?
- Is the booking deposit refundable? How much notice do you need to give to change dates?

8 Pay safely
- Fake pages copy the names of real rental companies to collect deposits
- Find the phone number and chat links on the company's own website or Google Maps, not in ads or forwarded messages
- If anyone asks you to pay into a different account, call the company's number first

Common questions before choosing a car rental
Are ฿500-a-day rentals in Udon Thani real?
Very low daily rates usually come with conditions: a long or monthly rental, or delivery, insurance or some fees not included. Should I buy SCDW?
It depends on how much risk you want to carry. If a sedan has damage to several panels in one incident and the repair is assessed at ฿18,000, with CDW only you pay at most ฿10,000. With SCDW (฿250/day for economy cars and sedans) you pay ฿0 for covered damage. For long trips, driving out of town or unfamiliar roads, SCDW gives real peace of mind.
Can I rent without a credit card?
Many companies in Udon Thani take a cash deposit, so ask the amount and how it's refunded. At O Car Rent no credit card is needed: the deposit is ฿3,000 / ฿5,000 / ฿10,000 in cash depending on the car, refunded when you return it with no new damage.
Who can rent, and which documents do I need?
Rules differ between companies, so ask before you book. At O Car Rent the renter must be 25–65 and have held a licence for at least 1 year.
